Almost certainly your tasks. That was the message from HR leaders at Session 1 of the LLSG Thought Leadership Series on 22 September 2026: AI is changing daily tasks faster than it is deleting roles, and the winners hand the right tasks to AI and reinvest the time in work only a human can do. ![](https://www.thefinancialcoconut.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_0157_01-jpg.jpeg?width=1920&height=1279&name=IMG_0157_01-jpg.jpeg) ## What did the LLSG Thought Leadership Series actually say about AI and jobs? Held at the Lifelong Learning Institute as part of SkillsFuture Festival 2026, the session brought together Adeline Sim (HRnetGroup), Mario Jacober (Zurich Insurance), Gerard Koh (Singtel), Chelvin Loh (SWDA) and Dr Tommie Chen (IAL), with a live Wise and Shine panel moderated by Adrian Tan. Nobody argued AI will not reshape work. What they disputed was the "AI replaces humans" framing itself. Adeline's opening point was commercial rather than comforting. In private, she said, business leaders do not complain that they cannot get enough compute or GPUs. They complain they cannot get enough people. Mario put it more bluntly: "It should not be about how many people AI can replace. It should be: what could these people now do that they couldn't do before?" ## Why should you think in tasks, not job titles? This was the single most repeated idea. Chelvin Loh pointed to the national skills taxonomy, which breaks 39 sectors into tens of thousands of tasks. By his account, about three quarters of those tasks are still largely manual, and since 2023, employers asking for AI skills have also asked for more human skills, not fewer. His example was a logistics SME that now runs three times the warehouse space with the same six warehouse assistants, using sensors and predictive analytics. Roles were redesigned, not removed. Mario offered a six-level scale, from Level 0 (AI irrelevant) to Level 5 (fully automated, no human involved). His "sweet spot" is Level 2, where AI takes the repetitive work and the person moves up. It is not a maturity scale, he stressed: for many roles Level 2 is exactly right, and impact varies even within one team, so upskilling cannot be one size fits all. ![](https://www.thefinancialcoconut.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_0158_01-jpg.jpeg?width=1920&height=1279&name=IMG_0158_01-jpg.jpeg) ## Where does human value sit once AI does the busywork? - **Adeline Sim's three human skills:** people skills (coordinating messy teams, reading what is unsaid), execution skills (ideas are cheap, shipped projects are not, and someone must be accountable when an AI agent gets it wrong) and community skills, because skills are often caught rather than taught. - **Gerard Koh's HI x AI x CI:** human intelligence times AI times culture intelligence. Multiplied, not added, so if any one is zero, the whole is zero. To find your own HI, he suggested starting with context, care and connection. - **Dr Tommie Chen's cognitive friction:** remove the admin friction, keep the thinking. Participants who each prompt their own AI and produce a polished deck in fifteen minutes have often learned nothing. Skipping the struggle builds "cognitive debt". Gerard's example was a Singtel call agent who became a conversation designer, teaching the chatbot empathy, then moved "above the loop" to supervise how the bots behave while handling the most sensitive calls herself. Not on its own. Dr Chen drew the line between proof of knowledge (a certificate) and proof of practice (what people can see you do), and argued the second matters more as skills date faster. Adeline noted that employers in Korea have begun asking candidates to show AI models they have deployed and the outcomes, and the ask is spreading. One HRnet client said it would only adopt an AI product if it could see 6,000 man-hours saved. "I use AI" no longer means much. Drawn from the speakers' own practical takeaways: - Write down your daily tasks and mark which ones AI could take on now - Decide what you will do with the hours saved, and make it higher-value work, not more of the same - Rewrite one CV section so it shows human and culture intelligence with evidence, not labels - Pick one task where you keep the struggle deliberately, so you can still judge whether AI output is right - Ask two people who know your work well what your strengths are, then show up to one in-person event Adrian Tan's moderator note is worth keeping too. The old Singapore script of study, stable job, climb no longer holds, and in his words, "complaining does nothing". His own move was to practise on something real: when layoff news peaked, he taught himself to code by building a site that tracks layoffs. ## FAQ 1. **Will AI replace jobs in Singapore?** Speakers at LLSG's 22 September 2026 session argued AI is changing tasks faster than it removes jobs.
